Steven Spielberg Says The 'Robopocalypse' Is Still Going To Happen, We Just Have More Time To Prepare

By / 01.11.13

Yesterday we heard Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse was being “postponed for an indefinite time.” It sounded like we wouldn’t get to see Catwoman, Thor, and Q from Skyfall fighting the robot apocalypse after all. Now Steven Spielberg has spoken to EW and Deadline to clarify what’s up with the Robopocalypse.

Spielberg tells EW that he’s “found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into Robopocalypse, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.”

In other words, the Robopocalypse script from Cabin In The Wood‘s Drew Goddard is being fed to the alligators, and a new, more personal script is in the works. If it involves interdimensional aliens and a crystal skull, I’m gonna release the monkeys.

Instead of starting the shoot this month, Spielberg estimates a six to eight month delay. He told Deadline that he had “an epiphany and I only have had these a couple of times during the course of my work and whenever those voices occur, I need to listen to them.”

On another note, whenever I have an epiphany and listen to suggestions from voices, I end up pouring Nutella all over a traditionally Nutella-less food item. Some people’s epiphanies are more ambitious than others.
