It’s been tough to follow what the heck’s going on with the Metal Gear Solid series lately (tougher than usual that is). Around this time last year Konami and Kojima announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which they sort of vaguely defined as prologue to Metal Gear Solid V. Then at last year’s Spike Video Game Awards, they released a trailer for something called The Phantom Pain. It was pretty obviously Metal Gear-related, but Konami claimed it was an all-new IP made by a totally new developer!
Well guess what? Turns out Kojima was jerking gamers around all along! How shockingly unlike him. Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain don’t really exist as stand-alone games — the trailers we saw for them were in fact just footage from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Okay, did you follow all that? Good, good. Hit the jump for the first honest-to-goodness, no jerking around Metal Gear Solid V trailer…
Welp, I have no idea what’s going on. It’s Metal Gear! Fire unicorns! According to Kojima, the trailer was all done with Metal Gear Solid V’s new FOX engine — no pre-rendered stuff. So far the only announced platforms are the Xbox 360 and PS3. Tell me again why we need a new generation of consoles?
