It’s a bit hard to overstate how important Evil Dead is as a franchise. In addition to launching the career of Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert, Evil Dead laid the financial groundwork for studios such as New Line Cinemas, who discovered that cheap, quality genre films can make a boatload of money.
It’s also taken on a life of its own: There’s Evil Dead comics, games, and a highly memorable musical.
