5 Games You Want Coming Out This Week (July 7th – 13th)

Keeping track video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).

Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.

Hit the jump for the five games you’re going to want to check out this week…

This Week’s iPhone Game Everyone Wishes Wasn’t An iPhone Game

Deus Ex: The Fall (iPhone & iPad, July 11th)

A few weeks back word of a new Deus Ex game leaked, everyone got all excited, annnd then it turned out it was an iPhone game, and well, The Fall, pretty accurately describes what happened to most people’s hype levels.

But hey, Deus Ex: The Fall may not be what everybody wanted, but it’ll probably still be pretty okay for an iPhone game. At the very least it only costs $7, so you won’t lose much by giving it a try.

This Week’s Minecraft-ey Shooter

Guncraft (PC, July 11th)

Guncraft is Minecraft with guns. Do I need to say more? Okay, basically you use Minecraft-like building tools to construct whatever crazy guns you can think of then shoot your friends with them. In other words, it’s a concept that absolutely, 100% was going to happen eventually. So uh, yeah — here’s Guncraft’s webpage.

This Week’s EA Football Game That Isn’t Madden

NCAA Football 14 (Xbox 360 & PS3, July 9th)

Is Madden just not satisfying all your video game football needs? Well then, here’s EA’s other, slightly different, football series. The Uproxx network is home to two sports sites, so I know somebody out there must care! Maybe?

This Week’s Pretty Awesome Compilation

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection (PS3, July 9th)

Coming kind of out of nowhere with little promotion this week is Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, a pretty sweet compilation containing every Hideo Kojima-designed Metal Gear game to date. That’s eight games, ranging from 1987’s Metal Gear all the way to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The collection also comes with a big honking 100-page booklet that reprints promotional material from all the games in the collection. You get all this for only 50-bucks — this is how compilations should be done.

Pick of the Week

Civilization V: Brave New World (PC, June 9th)

Have I mentioned I really like that the Civilization series still does expansions instead of nickle-and-diming players with little scraps of DLC here and there? Well, I do.

Brave New World greatly expands on Civilization V’s cultural and economic games, adding tourism and the ability to adopt ideologies, and reintroducing trade routes back into the mix. The expansion will also, of course, include several new civilizations (nine in total) as well as new wonders and scenarios. Get ready to relapse Civ fanatics.

Thankfully things have picked up a bit after a dire last week. Planning to grab any of the above-mentioned games? Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
