Take A Caribbean Tour With The Latest, Lengthy, ‘Assassin’s Creed IV’ Trailer

By 07.11.13

So, you’re a pirate in Assassin’s Creed IV! But how will being a pirate differ from being, say, a Native American revolutionary or 15th century Italian noble? Well, Ubisoft has just released a nearly eight-minute-long trailer/video tour, which shows off the piratey world of Assassin’s Creed IV.

Hit the jump for a taste of the seafaring life…

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw in that video — it looks like Assassin’s Creed IV may be the game I wanted Assassin’s Creed III to be.

For all its open world pretensions, Assassin’s Creed III still felt very segmented. The main campaign in particular was basically just a series of short gameplay snippets and snapshots. Assassin’s Creed IV, on the other hand, looks far more seamless.

I’m particularly happy to see you can seemingly blow up a ship or fort via naval combat, and then board said ship or fort without any hitch in between. In Assassin’s Creed III the progression would have been “wait through loading screen, blow up ship via naval combat, wait through loading screen, watch short cutscene, wait through loading screen, play through separate ‘boarding’ gameplay snippet, wait through loading screen, return to your boat.”

Argh – Ubisoft’s going to get me to buy another Assassin’s Creed, aren’t they? Dammit.
