5 Games You Want Coming Out This Week (Sept. 22nd – 28th)

Keeping track of video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).

Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.

Hit the jump for the five games you’re going to want to check out this week…

This Week’s Reboot

Shadow Warrior (PC, Sept. 26th)

Another “classic” 3D Realms shooter from the mid-90s gets resurrected this week. For the uninitiated, Shadow Warrior was basically Duke Nukem 3D with more racial humor. The makers of this new reboot are promising less cringeworthy Asian jokes, but aside from that, things still seem pretty over the top. Who knows? The game could be some solid old-school fun.

This Week’s Soccer Game

FIFA 14 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, 3DS & Wii, Sept. 24th)

Fun fact! Did you know they call soccer football in countries other than America/Canada? It’s true! Annnd now I’ve officially exhausted my knowledge of soccer. No, wait! I have another one! Did you know FIFA sells nearly twice as many copies as Madden now? Way to go Europeans — you’re even better at giving EA money than we are!

This Week’s Other Soccer Game

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 (Xbox 360 & PS3, Sept. 24th)

Yes, PES 2014 and FIFA 14 come out on the exact same day. How will I decide which one to buy? Ugh! Too heart-wrenching! I’ll just have to ignore them both.

This Week’s Strategy Game

Rise of Venice (PC, Sept. 27th)

Rise of Venice is new economic simulation in which you wheel and deal your way through the Renaissance as a merchant based in the city-state of Venice. It looks pretty dry, but hey, some people like dry.

Pick of the Week

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure (Wii U & 3DS, Sept. 24th)

The Scribblenauts series returns with Scribblenauts Unmasked, a love letter to DC Comics fans. This game contains pretty much ever hero and villain to ever appear in a DC published comic. Hell, there are even multiple versions of each hero and villain. Presumably you won’t just be able to type in “Superman” to solve every puzzle — I’m predicting a lot of kryptonite doors and scenarios where summoning fish is the only way to progress.

Bit of a slow week with GTA V continuing to cast a long shadow. Well, unless you’re into soccer of course. Planning to grab any of the above-mentioned games? Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
