Aaron Taylor-Johnson Took His Time Signing For Quicksilver In 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'

Aaron Johnson AKA Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Kick-Ass to play Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Earlier this year, we learned Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) was offered the role of Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but may have had scheduling conflicts. We commented that turning down the sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time would be the worst career move since Brian Dunkleman quit American Idol in the first season.

Taylor-Johnson must have wisely rescheduled some things, however, as Latino Review says he just closed his deal to play Quicksilver. This news comes one day after Samuel L. Jackson revealed Elizabeth Olsen is playing his sister, Scarlet Witch.

In an interview last August, Aaron Taylor-Johnson explained what he likes about Quicksilver and what he’d like to see the character do.

“There’s years — over 50 years — of backstory on him all there to use, and I like doing that. Him and his sister have been abandoned by their parents and their father [Magneto], and they grew up in Eastern Europe defending and looking out for themselves and each other. His sister really is his guidance — emotionally she’s the one who looks after him, and vice versa. He’s very overprotective physically — he doesn’t want anyone touching her.”

On the appeal of the character, he told us: “He has real anger frustration. I like that. I always thought it’d be quite funny if you saw him eating loads and people asked him why and he’d explain it’s because he’s burning so much energy all the time. Or ideas that you’d see him come back round, but he’s already nipped out and got his lunch somewhere else. He just got bored. His attention span is so f–king quick.” [Total Film via Latino Review]

The Earth 1610 version of Quicksilver especially doesn’t want anyone touching his sister… ’cause they’re doing it. We suspect Marvel won’t be using that version of the story. (I’d still watch it.)
