Noomi Rapace To Play Seven Noomi Rapaces In ‘What Happened to Monday?’

Noomi Rapace septuplets to star in What Happened to Monday?

Noomi Rapace from Prometheus and the original version of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is bringing her indie cred back to the sci-fi genre for a film by the writer and director of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Uh… well, I liked the first part of that sentence.

Noomi Rapace will star in What Happened to Monday?, an indie sci-fi directed by Tommy Wirkola and written by Max Botkin. She’ll be play multiple roles in the film, as her character is a set of septuplets trying to avoid government execution under a worldwide one-child policy. The sisters are also trying to find one of the septuplets who has gone missing. Did they check the bike store? If history and circuses have taught me anything, it’s that septuplets love to ride around together on mini-bikes.

Awesomely, the role originally called for a male lead, but people are starting to figure out female-led movies can also make bank, especially in sci-fi.

The lead was originally written for a male actor but was rewritten when Rapace met with Wirkola. “Although the role was originally written for a male, I was struck by the complexities of having an actor portray seven characters and immediately knew Noomi was the ideal actor — male or female — to bring them to life,” said Wirkola in a statement. “Also, the thought of seven Noomi Rapaces being all badass and cutting glass with those cheekbones filled me with the joy and longing of a thousand lady-boners,” Wirkola did not say but should have.
