Keeping track of video game releases isn't as easy as it once was -- the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they're spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).

Well, I'm here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I'll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week -- think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I'll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a "Pick of the Week".

Hit the jump for the five games you're going to want to check out this week...

This Week's Handheld Game

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS, Nov. 22nd)

The world's attention may be on the PS4 and Xbox One right now, but you shouldn't forget about your humble 3DS, as this Friday sees the release of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Nintendo's sequel to classic fan-favorite A Link to the Past. The game isn't all about nostalgia though -- it also does some interesting new things, such as allowing you to rent items and tackle dungeons in any order you wish.

This Week's Wii U Game

Super Mario 3D World (Wii U, Nov. 22nd)

No, seriously, I'm going to get to Xbox One stuff next, but I couldn't ignore Super Mario 3D World. This game is basically a crazy stew of 2D and 3D Mario seasoned with over a dozen power-ups and weird stuff like Mario Kart and overhead shooter stages, and well, it looks great. Keep the kids entertained with this one while you're slaughtering zombies on the Xbox One.

This Week's Xbox One Question Mark

Ryse: Son of Rome (Xbox One, Nov. 22nd)

Ryse: Son of Rome is the Xbox One's most mysterious launch title. It's part beat 'em up action game and part Call of Duty on-rails spectacle set in ancient Rome, which is kind of a strange combo. Microsoft is also blocking early Ryse reviews, so approach this one with caution. At the very least it looks unique, which is more than can be said for the PS4's two big launch titles.

This Week's Next-Gen Racer

Forza Motorsport 5 (Xbox One, Nov. 22nd)

Even though there isn't anything terribly groundbreaking about the game, there's a good chance Forza Motorsport 5 will actually be the best exclusive PS4 or Xbox One launch title. The Forza games have always been rock solid and beautiful, and there's no reason to believe Forza 5 won't follow suit. If you're into racing games, this is an obvious choice.

Pick of the Week

Dead Rising 3 (Xbox One, Nov. 22nd)

The original Dead Rising was one of the first games to really sell the Xbox 360 as a necessity, and it looks like Dead Rising 3 is carrying on that tradition. Dead Rising 3 is picking up mostly very nice reviews and unlike most PS4 and Xbox One launch titles, the game just straight up looks like a ton of fun.

So, anyone picking up the Xbox One or are Microsoft's policies enough to sour you on next-gen racing and zombie killing? Any games you're itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
