Keeping track of video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).
Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.

This Week’s Indie Game
Journey of a Roach (PC, Nov. 3rd)
It’s said that long after we humans destroy ourselves and the planet with pollution or a nuclear holocaust, the humble (and disgusting) roach will continue to thrive. Journey of a Roach is an adventure/puzzle game about just such a post-apocalyptic roach — combine items to solve puzzles point-and-click adventure game style, and use your buggy abilities to climb walls and traverse mazes.
This Week’s HD Remake
Wii Sports Club (Wii U, Nov. 7th)
Nintendo finally pulls out the big guns and brings a new HD update of Wii Sports to the Wii U. In addition to sharper graphics Wii Sports Club also supports Wii MotionPlus controls and online play. Nintendo’s also getting creative with how they’re delivering the game — each Wii Sports mini game (Nintendo’s launching with bowling and tennis this Thursday) can either be rented for $2 a day or permanently purchased for $10.
This Week’s Platformer
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (PC, Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii U, Nov. 5th)
Uh oh, a Pac-Man game that doesn’t revolve around the yellow pizza eating pellets in a maze. Those usually aren’t good, but Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (based on the new cartoon of the same name) is picking up decent reviews. It might be a solid choice if you’re on the lookout for holiday gifts for your kids or younger relatives.
This Week’s JRPG
The Guided Fate Paradox (PS3, Nov. 5th)
The Guided Fate Paradox is a new RPG by Nippon Ichi, the makers of the Disgaea series. Unlike most Nippon Ichi games, Guided Fate Paradox isn’t a strategy-RPG, it’s a randomly generated dungeon crawler about a boy who becomes a God in a lottery then has to change the fate of the people who pray to him. So yeah, warning, this is some seriously Japanese-ey s–t.
Pick of the Week
Call of Duty: Ghosts (PC, Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii U, Nov. 5th)
Well, I really don’t have to say much more about this one, do I? If you’re into the Call of Duty thing you’ve already booked the next week of work off, and if you’re not, you’re probably already dead tired of hearing us talk about Call of Duty: Ghosts. To those in the former category — have fun! Maybe I’ll join you now that the game lets you shoot aliens.
