Nintendo Direct Roundup: Zelda Dynasty Warriors, Mario Kart And Smash Bros. Trailers And More

When a Nintendo Direct was announced for today most people weren’t expecting much because, well, it’s almost the end of the year! Dropping a bunch of news a week before Christmas would be kind of weird, so of course that’s exactly what Nintendo did.

This morning’s Nintendo Direct contained a ton of new trailers and the announcement of a few new games, including a new Zelda title. You can watch the full thing below if you have 35-minutes to spare.

Or you can just hit the next pages for the biggest news…

Hyrule Warriors

Okay, first the biggest news — Nintendo is teaming up with Tecmo-Koei to essentially make a Zelda-themed Dynasty Warriors. Probably not the game most Zelda fans were expecting, but a true dungeons-and-puzzles Zelda title is still on the way as well. This is just a stopgap.

NES Remix

Another surprising one — NES Remix is a collection of over 200 mini-challenges based on old NES games. It actually looks like a lot of fun, but is this the way to show off your HD gaming console?

Oh, by the way, NES Remix is available to download right now.

Now, on to the trailers…

Mario Kart 8

This still looks like the best-looking Nintendo developed Wii U game to date.

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze

Hey, did you know Cranky Kong is actually the original Donkey Kong? And that the Donkey Kong of the Donkey Kong Country series is DK Jr.? So in other words, this is the first Donkey Kong Country game to actually let you play as Donkey Kong.

Super Smash Bros.

Between Smash Bros., Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8, Nintendo is really trying to make Rosalina happen, aren’t they? Keep one eye on that throne Princess Peach.

In other news, there’s also going to be a Luigi-themed Dr. Mario and Sonic Lost World is getting a Yoshi’s Island stage. So it looks like 2014 is going to be the year of the mashup for Nintendo. How’s Nintendo’s very eclectic early-2014 line-up looking to you folks?
