Helix, airing tonight in a double-episode debut, might just be the SF show we’ve been looking for. Here are five things you need to know about the show.

It’s Not The Thing: The Series

Early reviews have emphasized that while, yes, there are creepy beasts hiding in the air ducts, this as much about the science fiction as it is about the horror. Reviews have said the vibe is more X-Files than anything else, and honestly, that’s hard to turn down.

Each Episode Takes Place During One Day

Something that SyFy oddly hasn’t discussed is that the show has a very specific time frame. Each episode is what happens over a course of a day in the facility in the middle of the frozen wastes. So, that means there’s thirteen days for our heroes to figure out what’s going on.

There Won’t Be Any Flashbacks

Oh, we’ll get to see events from each character’s past. But they’ll be hallucinations, not flashbacks, something Cameron Porsandeh, the show’s creator and head writer, notes are a bit more… subjective and prone to the character interpreting events their own way.
