Infamous Harlan Ellison 'Star Trek' Script Is Being Made Into A Comic Book Miniseries

Before he was a cranky, well-respected author, Harlan Ellison was a cranky freelance TV writer, churning out scripts to pay the rent. One of those scripts was The City on the Edge of Forever, one of the most highly acclaimed episodes of Star Trek ever produced. Edge of Forever is an epic tale of madness, time-travel and Nazis starring, appropriately given the writer, cranky Doctor McCoy. Ellison won a Hugo for the script, but what made it to the screen was fairly different from what he originally envisioned — Star Trek’s producers had to make many cuts and alternations to Ellison’s script due to it being too long and expensive to film.

Well, now Ellison’s full, unaltered script is getting the comic book treatment courtesy of publisher IDW, writers Scott and David Tipton and artist J.K. Woodward. Ellison was his usual understated, humble self when announcing the project…

“It was a superlative joy of my long life to have worked with Leonard Nimoy, who became my friend, and many others at Star Trek; and an equally heart-happy joy to be working with J.K. and the Tipton Bros. on this long-awaited visual adaptation of my (humbly, I say it) brilliant original ‘City‚Ķ’”

Now, how about somebody gets working on a comic book adaptation of Harlan Ellison’s lost Batman script?
