‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ May Add Oscar Isaac And A Lot More Harrison Ford

The cast of Star Wars: Episode VII will be doing a table read with director J.J. Abrams in London today, so we expect several castmember reveals in time for Star Wars Day (May the fourth). In the meantime, some details are leaking early.

Deadline reports Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Sucker Punch) is up for a role. They also confirm the rumors about Adam Driver playing a villain, as well as rumors of John Boyega (Attack the Block) and Maisie Richardson-Sellers being up for roles.

Perhaps the biggest news is Deadline’s claim that Harrison Ford “has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films”, which will give us plenty of opportunities to make puns about this being a Han Solo solo film.

Another rumor comes via Screenrant, who pointed out a relevant interview with Zac Efron. At about 1:09 into this video, 5News asks Efron about the meetings he had with J.J. Abrams regarding Star Wars: Episode VII. Efron didn’t rule himself out, saying, “I have no idea on that. There’s irons in the fire, so to speak. I don’t like to talk about anything too early because, you know, it takes a while to get these things done right. Who knows?”

Star Wars: Episode VII takes place 30 years after Return Of The Jedi and will not have anything to do with the recently-overhauled Extended Universe. The cast will definitely include the aforementioned Harrison Ford, as well as Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, R2-D2, and Peter Mayhew. Several actors have been rumored for parts, including Jack Reynor, Lupita Nyong’o, Hugo Weaving, and Michael Fassbender, whom we’re still hoping plays Magneto-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars: Episode VII opens December 18th, 2015. Expect more news very soon.
