Five Games: ‘Destiny’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Sports Game

NHL 15 (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, Sept. 9th)

Heads up Canadians, our version of Madden is here! Gas up the snowmobile, gather your beaver pelts and get down to the video game trading post!

This Week’s Game About A Fast Box

Velocibox (PC & Mac, Sept. 8th)

Velocibox is essentially that part of Star Fox where you have to fly down the narrow corridor with all the blast doors expanded into a full game. Oh, and instead of a sleek space ship, you control a cube. I’m on board! Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Bridge Constructor Game

Bridge Constructor Medieval (PC, Mac & Linux, Sept. 12th)

Hey budding engineers, this one’s for you. Build sturdy bridges for you followers or build intentionally terrible bridges to send your enemies plummeting to their doom. Also, it’s all medieval-themed for some reason? Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Indie Platformer

Teslagrad (PC, Mac, Linux & Wii U, Sept. 11th)

Teslagrad, which takes place in a kingdom filled with “magic” inspired by the experiments of Nikola Tesla, features a neat hand-drawn art style and some brain-bending puzzle-platform gameplay that revolves around magnetism and polarity. Teslagrad hit PCs a little while ago, but now it comes to consoles starting with the Wii U.

Pick of the Week

Destiny (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, Sept. 9th)

Well folks, here it is — the biggest game of the year (and maybe this generation) hits shelves this week. The beta for Bungie’s open-world, shooter/MMO received high marks from gamers (despite some, uh, questionable voice acting) and now Destiny has arrived for reals. Now, let’s sit back and see if Activision can actually make back that 500 million they spent on this game.

The holiday gaming season is officially off and running! Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
