James Gunn Drops A Few Hints About ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’

A director’s work is never done, and with the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray arriving for the holidays, he’s on the interview tour, talking about the movie. And, along the way, he’s hinted at where the sequel might be heading.

These aren’t vague ideas, either. In this interview with Comic Book Resources, Gunn notes the story has already been written. And apparently, things are going to get a little messy for our favorite band of a-holes.

And the thing about Xandar, they became kind of good guys in the first movie, but they’re not as good as we think they are… I think that some of the characters are probably worse than what we think they are, and other characters are better than what we think they are. It’s going to be interesting to learn a little bit about that as time goes on.

Also of interest is that Gunn, thank the Supreme Intelligence, won’t just be recycling the movie’s plot in order to get a sequel out there.

When you go forward with a group of characters, that means you have to go forward. And going forward means you’re understanding these characters in a new way, you’re developing a new kind of story about their lives and who they are and where they’re going. And if you’re doing that, if you’re walking forward, then you can’t just repeat what you did before.

So, presumably, it’s sequel rules: The first one plays it safe, the second one is the movie the people involved really wanted to make. Hey, we’re down as long as Oreo gets more acting work.
