Casting Leak Reveals ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ May Already Be On The Way

The fate of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been a bit up in the air, as Sony struggles with the franchise and tries to work out a few spin-offs. Or, you know, maybe not, since they’re already conducting casting calls.

First found by Cinemablend, the casting call from Bill Beckman Casting is explicitly for extras in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. But there are a few weird bits about this, and it does make us wonder what, precisely, is going on.

First of all, the casting call is for the Atlanta area, and this is not only the first we’ve heard of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 shooting, this would also mark a bit of a departure for the franchise, which was mostly shot in New York and LA. Secondly, this would mean they’re going to start shooting soon for a movie where, the last we heard, it was going to arrive in 2018. Four years is a lot of lead time for even the most complex Hollywood blockbuster, and there was only a two-year gap between the first two movies.

One possibility is that the Sinister Six movie has been scrapped and those resources are being brought to bear on Amazing Spider-Man 3, perhaps rewriting the script for more Spidey. But that would mean they’d be shooting without Andrew Garfield; he’s committed to starring in Scorsese’s next movie, Silence, which will likely begin shooting soon and is slated for next year’s Oscar derby.

The most likely possibility, though, is simply that the casting agent is using misdirection or working off flawed information. As a few people have pointed out, they have some… odd casting calls for Warner Bros. and aren’t exactly up to date on who’s starring in the movies they’re working for. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that this actually is Sinister Six; since that movie is supposed to arrive in 2016, they’d have to get to work pronto to hit any sort of 2016 release date.

We suspect we’ll get confirmation one way or the other fairly soon. Until then, of course, all we can do is speculate. Or, in my case, roast up some crow in advance, because I was 99% sure we wouldn’t see a new Spidey until the inevitable third reboot. Ah well, maybe there’s a good recipe online…
