George Lucas Has The Perfect Reason For Not Wanting To See ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Early

George Lucas is a creator who catches a lot of heat, even though he created a world many adore. By re-editing his own films, adding new bits that seem to piss off fanboys, and filming some prequels that die-hards thought sullied the name, Lucas has become the scorn of many over the years.

But some interesting news recently came to light that may make you look at the illustrated creator in a different light. Though he had initially intended to make the film, George Lucas has no idea of the story behind the new Stars Wars movie and is actually waiting to see it in the theaters so he can experience it like his fans would. From ScreenRant:

I haven’t seen anything; I mean I saw the trailer, it looks great, it looks interesting. But as I’ve said before: one thing I regret about Star Wars is that I never got to see it, you know? I never got to be blown away by the big ship coming over the thing, or anything. But this time I’m going to be, because I have no idea what they’re doing.

As fans, we never thought of it like that. The idea that George Lucas didn’t get to actually experience his seminal series, as he was the one creating it. Now, being so far removed after selling Lucasfilm, he can actually go into the movie blind and see if it inspires in him what those films have gone on to inspire in so many.

An interesting side note to all this is George Lucas is working on two new films that seem to be more “art school and experimental,” though he never plans releasing them to the public. If they are anything like his first film, THX 1138, that would be a damn shame because that was an interesting film that set the foundation for a groundbreaking career. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for the Lucas penned Strange Magic dropping in movie theaters January 23rd.
