The Director Of ‘District 9’ Was Secretly Working On A Ripley-Starring ‘Alien’ Project

What’s the future hold for the Alien franchise? Ridley Scott has his Prometheus side thing going, but what about the Ripley ‘n’ xenomorphs original series? Who’s going to carry the baton there? Well, interestingly, it turns out Neill Blomkamp (director of District 9 and Elysium) was, at one time, working on an unofficial Alien-related project.

Now, here’s where things get weird. According to Blomkamp, Fox didn’t know anything about the project, so it’s unclear what Blomkamp was aiming to achieve with all this. Was he planning to pitch a new Alien project to Fox? Or is he just such a fan that he commissioned a bunch of Alien art for a project that will never be made?

Whatever the truth is, Blomkamp shared some pretty intriguing art on Twitter and Instagram. You can check it out below…

Hicks would have, apparently, also been part of this project.

Some shots from some sort of Weyland-Yutani facility.

Well, this is pretty goddamn rad.

Four-armed spiky, toothy alien! Rargh!

Damn, now I pretty desperately want a movie/game/something with that xenomorph helmet in it. What do you guys think? Would you be up for a Blomkamp Alien movie?
