Billboard has a cover story about Jared Leto in their issue dropping today, but in the meantime they released an excerpt from the interview which is relevant to our interests. Between bites of vegan tacos, Leto talked about his preparation to play The Joker in Suicide Squad. The character is larger than life, and Leto is going to start by getting larger himself.

“I’m trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours — and I’m terrible at eating a lot.”

If you saw how frightfully skinny he got for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club, you’d agree he needs to gain a little mass back (dat mass). He’ll just need to stop before he goes full Mark David Chapman. You never go full Mark David Chapman.

Our favorite part of the interview is how he describes The Joker.

“The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character — that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right?” Leto says. “[He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character — what a big challenge.”
