Kanye West Is Making A New Video Game While We Wait Patiently For That Mario-Inspired One

Kanye West’s interview with The Breakfast Club has already sparked Twitter blowback from his ex-girlfriend and memes about how likely it is that Beyoncé is as inspired by Kim Kardashian as ‘Ye claims. (We’ve also just noticed “Ye” looks like a gender neutral pronoun; let’s make that happen.)

But there was something else in that radio interview we nearly missed: Kanye West says he’s working on a video game. Not just any video game. One where you guide his late mother (R.I.P. Donda West) to the gates of Heaven. If she’s still not through the gate now, eight years after she passed, the game should end with players punching Saint Peter in the gut for taking too long. You had ONE JOB, Peter!

West explains the game around the 55 minute point:

“So right now I’m working on a video game for ‘Only One.’ The idea is, it’s my mother going through the gates of heaven and you have to bring her to the highest gates of heaven by holding her to the light. We’ve been working on it for like six months.” (Via)

I don’t have anything mean to say about that project. It seems like a way to work through some grief, and that’s fine. But can his video game plans extend to two widely divergent games or do they have to be limited to *sunglasses* “Only One”? We’re still holding out hope he’ll finish his other video game. What other video game? This classic side-scroller designed by a 12-year-old Kanye West:

“My game was very sexual. The main character was, like, a giant penis. It was like Mario Brothers, but the ghosts were, like, vaginas. Mind you, I’m 12 years old, and this is stuff 30 year olds are programming. You’d have to draw in and program every little step — it literally took me all night to do a step, ’cause the penis, y’know, had little feet and eyes.” (Via)

Step aside, Kanye Quest 3030, the standards for Kanye West video games just got harder, better, faster, stronger.
