AMC’s ‘Preacher’ Finds A Female Lead Familiar To Marvel Fans

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s first season was largely carried by a handful of the cast, including Ruth Negga as Raina, a mysterious woman who was behind most of the evil that season or at least had a middle management role. This being Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., she has since been turned into a human porcupine. But Negga apparently caught somebody’s attention over at AMC.

Negga has been cast on Preacher as Tulip, the gun-toting girlfriend of Jesse Custer, according to Deadline. She’s actually the first role cast, and it’s worth noting that the show went out of its way to find an actress who knows genre roles, having also worked on the cult series Misfits, as well as having a lengthy acting career on stage and in indie film.

Of course, most of the discussion will probably be about why they cast an Ethiopian/Irish actress as a blonde lady, if I know comics fans and their inability to enjoy nice things at all. As casting announcements go, this is one heck of an opening. Now, let’s see if they can poach another Marvel actor and get Howard Stark on board.
