The Team For ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ May Have Just Leaked

One thing is abundantly clear about Avengers: Age of Ultron: The team’s not going to be in good shape by the finale. Tony Stark ends the movie convinced superheroes should register, Cap is about to go rogue, and Whedon’s gotta Whedon so somebody’s probably winding up dead, or as dead as superheroes get. It’s fairly clear a new set of Avengers is on the way… but who?

Possible spoilers below.

According to anonymous sources at Superhero News, once Avengers: Infinity War gets fired up, Cap and Black Widow will be co-leading a team made up of The Falcon, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, and The Vision. Which is a pretty interesting mix of Avengers, right there, but how seriously should we take it?

Well, as a point in its favor, it’s entirely a mix of heroes we’ve seen before and are closely tied to the Avengers. Also of note, you could bump off Cap and give Black Widow his shield, and not much would change about the team. So, what about the original Avengers?

Thor’s got his own movie to deal with; apparently, the events of Thor: Ragnarok unfold during Infinity War. Tony is probably running the superhero registration efforts and/or being kind of a tool. Hawkeye is hanging around in Captain America: Civil War. That leaves Hulk and Quicksilver as the question marks.

First of all, fanboy rumor mill keeps insisting the Hulk is getting on a Quinjet, and we’ll see him in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. (James Gunn himself has categorized this rumor as “bullsh*t.”) Secondly, the rumor mill claims that Quicksilver is dying in Avengers: Age of Ultron, something I’m not sure I give that much credence to. Why bump him off? It’s not going to have that much emotional weight.

If you were going to have a dramatic death wrap up your movie, it would have to be a beloved character who comes out of nowhere but Marvel doesn’t really have much use for in the movies. Somebody we’ve gotten to know, somebody popular… crap. They’re killing off the Hulk, aren’t they?
