Five Games: ‘Broken Age Act 2’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but thankfully I’m here ever week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Very Japanese Thing

Omega Quintet (PS4, April 28th)

Omega Quintet is about a Japanese singing group that dresses up in Sailor Moon-ish costumes and fights an evil force known as the Beep with choreographed dance numbers. Oh, and also, your girls’ costumes can get torn off when they’re attacked by enemies. Aren’t other cultures fascinating?

This Week’s Survival Horror Game

Solarix (PC, April 30th)

Solarix is a new sci-fi survival horror game, in which you play an engineer trapped aboard a space station that’s been ravaged by some sort of infection. The makers of the game are promising open-ended stages that allow you to choose between combat or more sneaky gameplay. Solarix isn’t the most original horror concept, but it looks pretty solid for an indie title. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Puzzle Game

Sketchcross (PS Vita, April 28th)

Sketchcross is basically Nintendo’s Picross series, except on the PS Vita. For those who have never played Picross, it’s basically Minesweeper, except you end up with a cute little picture at the end. So yeah, Sketchcross isn’t a startlingly original product, but it’s probably a pretty fun one.

This Week’s Super Sentai RPG

Chroma Squad (PC, Mac & Linux, April 30th)

Chroma Squad is a new tactical RPG about a group of folks that decide to make their own Power Rangers-esque TV show. Success involves battling monsters Super Sentai-style, but it also requires you to deal with the minutia of running a TV series. This one certainly has a clever concept going for it. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

Pick of the Week

Broken Age Act 2 (PC, PS4 & PS Vita, April 28th)

After an unfortunate delay, the second act of Tim Schafer’s Broken Age finally arrives, bringing the journey started back in early-2012 when Broken Age’s Kickstarter first went live to a long-awaited end. You’ll also be able to play the game on your TV or on the go now, as the full game is coming out on PS4 and PS Vita. What will Shay and Vella’s fates be when they cross over to each other’s worlds? We finally get to find out.

Not a bad week if you’re willing to stray off the beaten path a bit. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
