A ’28 Months Later’ Movie Is In The Works

When Alex Garland was promoting his movie Ex Machina a few months ago, he mentioned that he was in talks with Danny Boyle and Andrew Macdonald about a third film in the “28 [Units of Time]” series, possibly called 28 Months Later.

According to Indiewire, Garland is now saying he’s written a treatment for the third film, but won’t be doing much else:

“About two years ago, Danny started collaborating on the potential to make ‘Trainspotting 2,’ another sequel,” he explained. “In that conversation, an idea for ’28 Months’ arrived. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I’d taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don’t want to work on it. I don’t really want to play a role, and Andrew said, ‘Leave it to me.’ So he’s gone off and is working on it.”

Macdonald co-founded DNA films, which has produced the 28 movies and many of Boyle’s other movies, as well. There’s no word on a director, a release date, or anything else, really. Just that Garland had a “very simple” idea for a third film, and Macdonald is running with it.

It’s exciting news if you like the fast-moving-zombie genre and wish there was franchise built around the original 2002 film.
