Five Games: ‘Invisible Inc.’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but thankfully, I’m here ever week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Turn-Based Strategy Game

Galactic Civilizations III (PC, May 14)

One of the most popular space empire building strategy series of all-time returns this week with Galactic Civilizations III. The latest entry in the series promises more alien races, new technologies and, for the first time, the ability to play online with up to four players. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Platformer-Strategy Game

Nom Nom Galaxy (PC & PS4, May 12)

Nom Nom Galaxy is the latest game in the acclaimed Pixel Junk series. Nom Nom Galaxy is a platformer-strategy hybrid that tasks you with collecting resources, which you’ll use to build your soup factory. That’s right, this game is about cooking soup to feed a hungry galaxy. The Pixel Junk games are nothing if not unique. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Dodge ‘Em Up

Lost Orbit (PC & PS4, May 12)

Lost Orbit looks like an old-school top-down shooter, except you don’t actually do any shooting. Lost Orbit is all about dodging danger, which you’ll do by boosting, swimming, jumping and teleporting. This one should help you keep your wits and thumbs tuned up. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Brazilian Action-Adventure Game

Toren (PC & PS4, May 12)

Toren is a new action-adventure game made by Brazilian indie developers, Swordtales. The game features some lovely visuals (it looks very reminiscent of Ico) and some interesting mechanics. As the game progresses, your main character will grow from an infant to a woman, granting you new abilities and powers along the way. The world of Toren definitely looks like one worth exploring. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

Pick of the Week

Invisible Inc. (PC, Mac & Linux, May 12)

Invisible Inc. is a new stealth game from the makers of Mark of the Ninja and Don’t Starve. There’s a catch, though. This isn’t an action title, it’s a turn-based strategy game. A strategy game that revolves around avoiding conflict instead of fighting is a great idea, and the game has a slick, stylish look. The game comes out on Steam this week, with a PS4 version on the way sometime later this year.

There’s some good-looking stuff out this week, if you’re willing to give indies a try. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
