Hugh Jackman Finally Explained Why He’s Leaving The Wolverine Character Behind

Although Hugh Jackman has said that he’d love to play Wolverine for years and years, James Mangold must have presented Jackman with a scenario that will see the X-Man go out in a poetic light, because Jackman is changing his tune now, saying earlier this year that Wolverine 3 will be the last time we’ll see him donning the claws. Now we know why.

“This will be my last one,” Jackman said on the Dr. Oz this week. “It is my last time. It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”

It’s still likely that we’ll see Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, as it’s the end of Bryan Singer’s X-Men universe and Wolverine has played such a large part in it. Wolverine has died in the comics before, so it remains to be seen if we’ll watch the man-imal see his fate decided before the credits roll. If memory serves me correctly, Magneto almost killed Wolverine by ripping out his adamantium skeleton.
