If you’re wondering, Jian Bing Man translates, roughly, to “Pancake Man.” It’s about a street vendor who gets magical powers from his food. So, just in case the Muscles from Brussels in a white suit doing splits wasn’t a giveaway, this movie isn’t exactly serious.
Jean-Claude Van Damme appears to be the big selling point of this movie, at least outside of China. To the point where there’s an entire promo reel as it rapidly becomes clear JCVD doesn’t really know what his job in the movie is, he just took the check:
On one hand, this looks like a Chinese remake of The Meteor Man. On the other, we’re pretty sure JCVD can use any paycheck he can get these days. There’s no word on a U.S. release for Jian Bing Man, but we’re sure with this kind of star power it’ll turn up on Netflix at some point.
