Angry Nintendo Fans Have Started A Petition Demanding The Latest ‘Metroid’ Game Be Canceled

While I thought Nintendo’s 2015 E3 Digital Event was solid, if somewhat unremarkable, the response amongs many other Nintendo fans has been slightly less level-headed. The general online consensus seems to be that Nintendo’s showing was an abomination, a brazen slap in the face, and a sure sign that Nintendo is, once again, DOOMED.

The moment that seems to have really riled up Nintendo fans was the revelation of Metroid Prime: Federation Force. The Metroid series has more or less been on ice for the past five years after Metroid: Other M debuted to mixed reviews and so-so sales (for the record, I liked Other M quite a bit). Every year, fans hope for a return of Metroid at E3, and they got it this year, but not in the way they wanted.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a multiplayer shooter for the 3DS, featuring simple, chunky graphics and, apparently, no Samus. Admittedly, the game doesn’t look particularly promising, but the reaction of some Nintendo fans has been a little over the top. They’ve taken to Change.org and started a petition basically demanding Nintendo wipes the game from existence

“This is not the Metroid we asked Nintendo to make. We should let Nintendo know what we really think of the game and make them actually LISTEN to their fans for once. Help us stop this atrocity of a game from hurting the beloved Metroid franchise name and make Nintendo halt production on it.”

It’s almost as if we don’t own Nintendo and they can make what they want! The nerve! The petition, which already has almost 10,000 signatures, points to the fact that the trailer for Federation Force has a 90 percent disapproval rating on YouTube. That’s pretty bad, but I’d like to point out the fact that a game existing doesn’t mean you have to play it. Metroid Prime: Federation Force looks like, at best, a $5 to $10 downloadable title. That should be very easy to ignore. If you want to send a message, not giving Nintendo your money is probably the best route.
