This Computer Program Teaches Itself How To Play ‘Super Mario World’

It’s rather prescient that the release date for Terminator Genisys is only half a month away, what with programmer SethBling‘s new computer program that teaches itself to play Super Mario World. Skynet is real, and it’s going to kill us all.

Seriously though, SethBling’s new program is really neat. The program, called MarI/O, is based on principles from machine learning. Specifically, the program constitutes a brain, or neural network, which is based on the actual biological principles behind thinking and cognition. MarI/O’s own brain is very, very simple when compared to a human’s, but it’s still a very powerful concept when put into practice.

Enjoy your machine-less freedom while you can, humans. I for one welcome our new mecha-plummer overlord.
