‘Nothing Is Taboo’ For Ryan Reynolds And ‘Deadpool’ According To Producer Simon Kinberg

With Deadpool finished with shooting, the waiting game begins for the Merc with a Mouth’s arrival in theaters. And according to producer Simon Kinberg in a new story from Entertainment Weekly, nothing will be off limits when that entrance finally takes place:

“Deadpool is a hard R,” assures producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past). “It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

That’s pleasing to hear, especially following the last appearance of the character in the X-Men film series (a film I’ve honestly forgotten about from time to time, on this very site). What we’ve seen so far is exciting, but it would seem that the folks behind the film still need to compare it to something in order for folks to understand what they’re getting into. I suppose telling people to “go read Deadpool” was too much for director Tim Miller, so he offered this comparison:

“I felt Fight Club and Tyler Durden were good corollaries,” he says. “We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

At least its a fine comparison. He could’ve easily said, “I really dove into Nathaniel Hawthorne for some inspiration and the films of Truffaut.” Then Deadpool comes in, whips his head off with a sword, and puts on a puppet show for the nearby kids.
