Five Games: ‘Godzilla’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but I’m thankfully here every week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Remaster

God of War III: Remastered (PS4, July 14)

The remastering trend craze seems to be dying down a bit, but not before Sony sneaks out a PS4 version of one of the PS3’s most impressive games. God of War III now runs at 1080p and 60fps on the PS4 and features other minor upgrades, like a new lighting system and a photo mode. Not a huge update, but if you’ve never played God of War III, this is the version to get.

This Week’s Hip-Hop Western

Luckslinger (PC, Mac & Linux, July 16)

At first glance, Luckslinger may look like a fairly straightforward retro-styled action game, but there’s a bit more to it than that. Luck is a collectible resource in Luckslinger, which you can use to help you out in a variety of situations. About to get shot? Use some of your luck, and the bullet will miraculously miss you. Luckslinger also features a sweet hip-hop soundtrack that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from a western-themed title. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Space Fleet Management Game

Interstellaria (PC, Mac & Linux, July 17)

Interstellaria is yet another game about managing a starship/fleet as you explore the galaxy. There are quite a few games like this out there right now, but Interstellaria looks like it has more personality and humor than your average crew management title. Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Slapstick Strategy Game

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (PS3, PS4 & PS Vita, July 14)

The Deception games put you in control of a dungeon and challenge you to kill a hero using a variety of elaborate, sadistic traps. Basically, the Deception games are elaborate, bloody, breast-filled versions of Mouse Trap. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess promises to deliver more silliness, sadism and sexiness than ever.

Pick of the Week

Godzilla (PS3 & PS4, July 14)

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good ol’ fashioned Godzilla game come out in the West, but that changes this week with a new game, simply titled Godzilla. A brawler based on the classic Japanese Godzilla films by Toho, Godzilla is reportedly pretty simple, but packed with a lot of affection for the series that fans of the big green guy should appreciate.

Hey, some stuff actually came out this week! Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
