Five Games: ‘King’s Quest’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but thankfully I’m here every week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Adorable DLC

Never Alone: Foxtales (PC, Mac, Xbox One & PS4, July 28)

Never Alone was a charming puzzle-platformer developed by, and based on the legends of, Alaskan Natives. Foxtales expands on Never Alone with a new adventure that heavily emphasizes water-based gameplay. Paddle your sealskin canoe and dive into the icy depths as heroes Nuna and Fox try to save their friend from an intimidating foe.

This Week’s Cyberpunk Crime Caper

The Swindle (PC, Mac, PS3, PS4 & PS Vita, July 28)

The Swindle is a strategy/stealth game in which you break into randomly-generated buildings, hack their systems and steal all their sweet, sweet cash. Oh, and the game also has a stylish steampunk aesthetic, because sure, why not? Looks like some good, tense fun.

This Week’s Tactical JRPG

Lost Dimension (PS3 & PS Vita, July 28)

Lost Dimension is a new Japanese tactical RPG, with a lot of party management elements. All your characters have unique personalities and abilities, and you can socialize with them to create stronger bonds or sniff out traitors. Lost Dimensions definitely seems to have a bit more personality than your average tactical RPG, so if might be worth a look if you’re looking to play something on your lonely PS3.

This Week’s Uncooperative Multiplayer Game

Knight & Damsel (PC, July 27)

Tired of games about white knights having to save helpless damsels? Well, Knight & Damsel throws a wrench into that old narrative by having the knight and damsel compete to save each other! In Knight & Damsel you try to delay your opponent/savior as much as possible while trying to make it through the stage first to become the hero. Fairy tales have never been so passive-aggressive! Here’s the game’s Steam page.

Pick of the Week

King’s Quest: Episode 1 – A Knight to Remember (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, July 28)

Adventure games have come back in a big way over the past few years, but up until now King’s Quest has been left out of the genre’s resurgence. Well, that changes this week, as the granddaddy of the adventure genre returns with King’s Quest: Episode 1 – A Knight to Remember. Activision’s new take on King’s Quest is certainly beautiful and its voice cast includes fan-favorite names like Christopher Lloyd and Wallace Shawn. Hopefully the title’s world and gameplay live up to expectations.

A good week if you’re an old-school Sierra fan! Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
