Mark Hamill Is Returning To Voice The Joker In The Animated ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Movie

As we reported a couple weeks back, Warner Bros. Animation is finally going ahead with an animated version of Batman: The Killing Joke. This has been a long time coming, as parts of The Killing Joke, most notably (SPOILERS) the crippling of Barbara Gordon by the Joker, have been referenced in multiple DC Universe animated projects.

There’s already been plenty of hot Internet debate over whether one of the ugliest, and arguably misogynistic, Batman stories ever told really needs to be a cartoon, but a lot of minds might be changed with the news that Mark Hamill will be returning to voice the Joker in The Killing Joke. This is significant because Hamill has been threatening to retire from doing his iconic Joker voice for some time now. Originally, Batman: Arkham City was going to be his final turn as the Joker, but (SPOILERS AGAIN) they managed to lure him back for Batman: Arkham Knight, and The Killing Joke is now also on his Bat-plate.

Hamill has pushed for an animated take on The Killing Joke for years, so it’s not shocking that he’s doing the Joker thing one more time. It will be interesting to see if this becomes the actual curtain call for Hamill’s Joker. I mean, once you’ve done The Killing Joke, what else is there to do, really?

The Batman: The Killing Joke movie hits sometime in 2016.
