A Shot-By-Shot Breakdown Of The New ‘X-Files’ Teaser

The X-Files won’t return to Fox until Jan. 24 but, since that’s about six months away, it’s time for teasers! And surprisingly meaty ones, for 15 seconds. It all starts with a crashed flying saucer:

This is only borne out by the following shot:

Those are decidedly not modern military uniforms, and notice also that the flying saucer in the first shot is in the background of this one, on the left. Considering the rather important place the Roswell crash holds in X-Files mythology, it seems likely that we might be seeing the beginnings of the conspiracy Mulder and Scully have been unravelling for years.

Next up is this ominous shot:

Things do not look good for whoever is being dragged away on the left there. Furthermore, it appears that this particular warehouse is lived in, or at least has furniture around; notice the couch and the desk. This could just be a plot setup, but it’s worth noting the Lone Gunmen lived in a warehouse… and were revived in IDW’s ongoing series.

The next shot, though, is an OH CRAP moment for fans:

That’s somebody being injected with the Black Oil, an alien virus that takes control of its host while altering its biology to better suit its goals. Also worth noting; some characters on the show believe the Black Oil arrived with the Roswell crash.

Finally, before seeing our heroes with guns and flashlights out, we’ve got this shot:

The context is unclear, but the meaning is obvious. Just what’s happening, though, will have to wait for January.
