‘Deadpool’ May Not Have Cable, But He Won’t Be Absent For Long

The sole problem some fans have had so far with Deadpool is that it lacks the Hardy to his Laurel, the Bing to his Hope, the relatively sane human being to his utter lunacy, Cable. But Cable won’t be gone for long, according to Deadpool‘s director.

Interestingly, he also may be the bad guy in the sequel, or at least the antagonist. Comics Alliance has put together a few thoughts from Tim Miller, who directed the movie, and Ryan Reynolds about where Cable fits in with the tone they’re setting, but this is really the money quote:

There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2, I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.

For those unfamiliar, Cable is Cyclops’ son, who was born to a clone of Jean Grey in modern times, sent to the future, and then comes back to prevent an apocalypse. Oh, he also has a techno-organic virus barely controlled by his psychic powers, a glowing eye, and a propensity for enormous energy rifles.

Yes, the ’90s were a silly time in comic books. Cable really clicked when he was paired off with Deadpool, being that he was very, very serious and Deadpool… isn’t. One can see why Fox left Cable out of the first go-round, but, for Deadpool 2, we can’t wait to see an R-rated buddy comedy.
