I’m looking forward to Goth Ham, er, Gotham‘s second season. The first season had some problems, largely thanks to a herky-jerky production schedule, and it doesn’t seem to have entirely learned its lesson on limiting the size of its cast. And this trailer has me stoked, if for no other reason than it promises the show will be every bit as ridiculous this season as it was the last.
This trailer is ostensibly about the villains, including “Jerome,” the character they’re hinting so hard is the Joker I will bet money he gets a bullet to the face at some point this season. But if you put together the clues, it appears the trailer’s more or less telling us how the season kicks off; somebody unleashes Arkham’s full complement of vicious criminals on Gotham, and it’s up to Gordon to find them and throw them back in the asylum. Also it looks like the show learned from its finale that letting Ben McKenzie kick some ass is always welcome.
It’s also been said that the show will have longer arcs and fewer one-and-done villains, which can only be a good thing. Just don’t bring back Barbara; Leslie giving her the Hotline Miami Special in last season’s finale is all the closure we need.
