‘Man Of Steel 2’ May Never Get Made

Man of Steel is a controversial movie among nerds, but not among audiences; it racked up $670 million at the box office and launched the upcoming DC Cinematic Universe. So of course a sequel is on the way, right? Maybe not.

Den of Geek, following up on that rumor of George Miller directing Man of Steel 2, found out two things. One, that Miller is indeed in discussions to direct a DC movie, and two, that Man of Steel 2 is on “permanent hold.” We don’t know what “permanent hold” means in studio executive speak, but we’re going to assume it’s nothing good.

It makes sense, if you look at the DC schedule. Zack Snyder is booked until 2019 with Batman v Superman and the two Justice League movies. Henry Cavill is integral to all three of those movies, as well, plus whatever other DC obligations he may have, or any stylish spy movies he wants to star in that get killed by biopics at the box office. Notice that rumored trilogy of Batman movies hasn’t been made official, either; there are a lot of moving parts, here.

We’ll see another Superman movie eventually; the first one made money, so the second one is all but inevitable in Hollywood. But don’t be surprised if it takes a while.
