The ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Script Made John Boyega Cry

John Boyega spoke to GQ about his starring role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Although he couldn’t say much about the movie, lest he be locked in J.J. Abrams’ mystery box for all eternity, he did say a bit about his character’s personality, the arduous audition process, the weight of lightsabers (surprisingly heavy), and how he reacted when he read the script:

“When I read the script I cried, and I’m not really a big crier… I’m more like a frog-in-the-throat kind of guy, who’ll try to hold it in and make sure I don’t let it all out.”

After seven months of auditions, he landed a dream role that involves a lot of sprinting around a desert in a leather jacket, playing a character which Boyega says was his favorite in the script, the “quirky and charismatic and funny” Finn, who has “a story that’s never been seen before, but it also mirrors the stories of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.”

Does that mean he shoots first and kisses his sister? We’ll find out when Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases this December 18.
