Ben Affleck And Henry Cavill Get Real About The Source Of Their Conflict In ‘Batman V Superman’

While Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have garnered all the movie news this week as they sent Fandango, AMC, and all online ticketing websites into paralysis from the onslaught of fans seeking presale tickets, new plot points have emerged from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, courtesy of lead actors Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, who portray Batman and Superman, respectively. The pair shed light on why the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel are so antagonistic towards one another.

Cavill explains that the conflict between the two heroes stems from billionaire Bruce Wayne (the alter ego of the Dark Knight) trying to flee the destruction that is transpiring in Metropolis. Cavill revealed that there will be an entire prologue devoted to this sequence. The prologue will culminate with the Wayne Financial Building being decimated. This will lead to the conflict between the pair. Cavill elaborates:

“What happens there is one of Bruce’s buildings gets destroyed and he’s trying to save all the people inside the building and he can’t. So he is this angry person who fears what Superman may do. Why are they just going to trust this super-powered alien? What if he does decide to turn against us?”

Affleck adds more on why Batman harbors animosity toward Superman:

“He’s found himself in a place of harboring a tremendous amount of rage for Superman. So it’s how he got there, and what that’s done to him, and what that’s done to people around him like Alfred, who are, I think, very scared and worried for him. It’s something that’s interesting and new.”

When questioned about directing a solo Batman film, Affleck said, “You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it … Broadly speaking, it’s something I’d be open to, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.”

As the two poster boys for DC Comics collide, a new danger arises and the world is facing a threat unlike anything that has come before. What that threat is will be revealed when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 25.
