‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Is Much Improved By Robert California Ultron

Last year we were making jokes comparing James Spader’s character of Ultron in Avengers: Age Of Ultron to James Spader’s character of Robert California on The Office. And really, Robert California’s self-indulgent monologizing about trying to recreate Eyes Wide Shut or get the party started wouldn’t be so surprising to hear from Ultron, and the Avengers’ reaction shots to what Ultron is saying are a well-fitting mix of anger and confusion that also works when trying to make heads or tails of Robert California’s latest ramble.

And, really, as The Mary Sue points out, his personality still isn’t that much different than Tony Stark’s. Maybe slightly less inebriated by noon.

We have to admit Avengers: Age Of Ultron would have been much improved if Ultron had ever warned Tony Stark, “I will not be blackmailed by some ineffectual, privileged, effete, soft-penised debutante. You want to start a street fight with me, bring it on, but you’re going to be surprised by how ugly it gets. You don’t even know my real name. I’m the f*cking Lizard King.”
