Bryan Cranston Has Decided Which Marvel Villain He’d Like To Play

Bryan Cranston was at New York Comic Con this weekend to promote… *spins wheel* … ah, his animated series with Seth Green called SuperMansion. At a panel for the show, he admitted that he’s thought more on the topic of playing a Marvel villain and has changed his mind about only playing an original character. He’d also consider portraying Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister.

According to IGN, he told the crowd:

“It intrigues me to be able to play a character that hasn’t been on film before, so you can create it from the beginning.”

Sinister would fit the bill, as he’s never been portrayed in the X-Men films before (unless you count kind of an Easter-y egg mention in X2). He’s a super-mutant: He ages so slowly, he’s mastered plenty of scientific fields, including an interest in biology and genetics that help enable his obsession with cloning Scott Summers. In addition to his doctorate and crazy thousand-year aging thing, he’s telepathic, telekinetic, a shape-shifter, and regenerative/invulnerable.

Basically, take all the cool mutant powers, throw them together with a fringed cape and a goatee, and you get Essex, who is exactly the kind of crazy badass Cranston has already expressed wanting to play. I don’t quite see it, myself, but maybe with the right wig and makeup, he can pull it off. Cranston might also have to hire Chris Pratt’s personal trainer, unless we’re going for a less-ripped version of Sinister.

SuperMansion is a stop-motion series that premiered on Crackle on Oct. 8. It also co-stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jillian Bell. You can check it out online at Crackle.
