One of those crossovers we’ll never see on the big screen is Star Trek and Star Wars. It wouldn’t make sense for multiple reasons. But that doesn’t mean we can’t dream… and Zenlike Productions almost makes it feel real in this impressive mashup.
Essentially, it’s the audio of the Star Wars trailer, with Star Trek visuals cut into the actual trailer itself. There’s even a clever bit of music editing at the very end worth keeping an ear out for.
It helps that Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Wars: The Force Awakens have the same director and cinematographer, so they have a close look already. Still, some of the cuts here are simply inspired; the editor behind this not only watched those trailers obsessively, they know Star Trek Into Darkness inside and out.
Sadly, this is something we’ll never see, despite the newly crossover-friendly studio machine viewing the ability to combine franchise as a way to make a staggering amount of money. But, hey, at least we’ve got a Star Wars movie that looks good and a Star Trek movie that looks good coming out fairly close together: It’s a great time to be a nerd.
