Meet The New Actor Who Stepped In To Play Colossus In ‘Deadpool’ At The Last Minute

One of the more surprising things about the upcoming Deadpool movie (aside from the fact that it’s even happening at all) is the fact that X-Men stalwart Colossus seems to be playing a pretty major role in it. He was featured in Deadpool‘s first trailer, and the IMAX poster for the movie features ol’ iron pants prominently.

Oddly, until now, it wasn’t entirely clear who would be playing Colossus. We knew Daniel Cudmore, the guy who portrayed Colossus in the X-Men movies, wouldn’t be returning. For a while it was reported Andre Tricoteux would portray Colossus, but apparently he was dropped.

Well, Entertainment Weekly has now revealed that Colossus will be played by 37-year-old Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic, a relative unknown who’s spent most of his career playing Russian heavies on TV shows like 24 and Numb3rs. Kapicic finished recording his final lines less than a week ago and he talked about how excited he was to be a part of the project:

“My grandfather bought me my first Marvel comic book when I was 6 years old, and since then, it has been an ongoing love. It was an X-Men comic book. Becoming a part of the Marvel Universe was my childhood dream. Like most kids growing up, I read a lot of comic books and acted out some of the characters with friends. Since I can remember, I wanted to be a superhero, so it’s not just a movie for me or just another role. It’s a fulfillment of my dreams on so many levels.”
