This Video Game Had People Convinced It Spoiled Rey’s ‘Star Wars’ Identity

One rumor that Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t put to rest is just who Rey’s parents are. The movie opened with her orphaned and closed with her making a pitch to a teacher and potential surrogate father. The only clue we got to her parentage was during a dream sequence, and all we got from that was they like to ride freighters. And that, combined with a misheard word, was enough to convince people a video game had accidentally spoiled Rey’s parentage.

Disney Infinity, for those unfamiliar, is a video game where you can buy little figures and playsets, plop them on a little stand, at which point the game uses the figures to create a video game you can play. Needless to say, The Force Awakens has a playset, complete with Kylo Ren boss battle. And in the course of the battle, he appears to call Rey “cousin.”

Unless Leia has a sister she just doesn’t talk to and has somehow never come up, that would seem to confirm Rey is Luke’s daughter. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Angry Joe Show, which discovered the potential spoiler, turns out to have gotten it wrong:

Yes, Kylo Ren says “Curses!” not “Cousin!”, because this is a children’s video game and bad guys still talk like Snidely Whiplash. We’ll just have to wait for Episode VIII to confirm Rey’s parentage, and at this rate, it’s probably Jar Jar Binks.
