Thor And Vision Square Off In A Deleted ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Scene

For Marvel Comics fans, one of the most thrilling developments in Avengers: Age of Ultron was the addition of Vision (Paul Bettany), the android superhero initially created by Ultron who would go on to become a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Though his origin story differed slightly, this Vision remained an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and looked to be an integral piece of the new face of the Avengers following the status quo-shifting Age of Ultron.

All of that turned out to be true, but in the end, we didn’t see as much of Vision as we might have had writer/director Joss Whedon kept all of the sequences featuring the character intact. Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Two box set is out, we’re getting more insight into the films that make up Phase Two, including Age of Ultron, and that means Marvel is releasing new footage online. Today, a clip dropped featuring a very much extended fight scene between Vision and Thor, right after Vision was “born” in a lab. As you may remember from the movie, it was Thor who had the “vision” that Vision would be important, and directly awakened him with his lightning powers. The ensuing fight in the finished film was rather short, but in this clip, it gets a good deal more room to breathe, with often spectacular results.

As you can see, the digital effects for the scene aren’t finalized, but it’s worth watching just to witness Vision do things like make Cap’s shield go right through him, and zap parts of the lab with the Mind Stone in his forehead. This scene makes it clear, more than almost any other Age of Ultron moment, that we’ve only scratched the surface of what Vision can do, and that will have big implications in the films going forward.
