A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay: December 16th

Once again it’s time for Gamma Squad’s Friday cosplay feature, spotlighting the best comic book related costuming from the cosplay community.  We’re casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.
Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.
Next week we’ll be featuring cosplay relating to our current theme: Spider-man and Friends. So, if you’d like to see your work featured, this is your last chance to submit!
But in the meantime, let’s continue with this week’s selection.

Power Girl Triumphant at Dragon*Con 2011. Power Girl cosplay by Luna Selene.

A memorable group cosplay, and it’s good to see some of the fun that cosplayers have at cons coming across in the shoot.

Sabretooth cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by Paul Cory. Source: Flickr

A classic 80s styled Sabretooth was always going to be hard to pull off without looking cheesy, but respect to this cosplayer for making the attempt to do so and getting every detail spot on.

Raven cosplay at Anime 2011. Photo by coldsteel27. Source: Flickr

An impressive take on Raven, apparently inspired by the Teen Titans cartoon. Some beautiful costumery.

Namor cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by DTJAAAAM. Source: Flickr

A great looking Namor costume, made even better by a bit of imperious attitude.

Jesse Quick by Its-Raining-Neon. Source: Flickr

It’s always a pleasure to see a more obscure character given some love, such as this superb take on Jesse Quick. Although we do wonder how effectively she can run in those heels.

She-Hulk cosplay at San Diego Comic Con 2011. Photo by Honky275. Source: Flickr

A nice use of props elevates this Jennifer Walters cosplay even higher in our eyes.

Mr Freeze cosplay by Paulv70 of The Superhero Costuming Forum. Source: SCF

In addition to giving credit for an amazing Mr. Freeze costume, we have to also applaud Paul for both shaving his head for the costume and suffering oxygen deprivation while wearing the helmet. Now that’s dedication!

Ms. Marvel cosplay by Marie-Claude Bourbonnais at NYCC 2011.

Model and designer Marie-Claude is also a kick-ass cosplayer and a memorable sight at cons. With costumes like this, it’s small wonder.

Booster Gold by whiskers. Photo by Tyrus Flynn. Source: Deviantart

A favoritism is showing through here, as the author of this feature is a fan of the Booster! But still, we think this costume deserves to be featured.

Dazzler cosplay by DJ Spider. Photo by Frank Eng. Source: Flickr

And from one glitzy superhero to another. We’re loving DJ Spider’s take on Dazzler’s 80s costume. Who says disco is dead?
