Michael Fassbender Promises ‘Alien: Covenant’ Will Be Much Scarier Than ‘Prometheus’

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus certainly has its fans (I consider myself one of them), but even the movie’s most ardent supporters would have to admit the movie isn’t terribly scary. Atmospheric? Yes. Intense in parts? Yes. But truly terrifying? Not really.

Well, according to Michael Fassbender, the upcoming Alien: Covenant should one-up Prometheus in the scares department in a pretty big way

“This Alien is going to be…I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus, but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus. Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”

A movie that combines the nightmarish, relentless horror of Alien with the bigger, more high-minded storytelling of Prometheus definitely sounds promising. Can Ridley Scott pull it off? He doesn’t have a spotless track record, but at his best, he certainly has the capacity. The guy just delivered The Martian at age 77 – never count Ridley Scott out.

Alien: Covenant bursts into theaters Aug. 4, 2017.
