Kevin Smith directed a popular episode of The Flash and he’s going to be back for an episode in season three. But he also wants a crack at Arrow as it returns to its roots of Ollie killing guys with arrows instead of just maiming them, and he wants to bring his personal supervillain to the show as well.
Back in 2002, Smith helped relaunch Ollie into the DC universe, and in the second arc, introduced Onomatopoeia, a supervillain and assassin with the quirk of, well, repeating sound effects in the panel. He’s a serial killer of costumed vigilantes, and in the books, his verbal tic is plenty creepy as he sits in front of a corpse, casually muttering “drip” as blood falls off of it. Smith, though, realizes that a grown man saying things like “Click!” is less disturbing and more silly on film, so his plan involves, uh, business cards:
So instead of just doing the actual sound – which to me, in the real world, would be like the dude from Police Academy making noises with his mouth – he’ll just have little cards. So instead of him saying ‘blam’, you’d find this card on your desk and turn around and ‘blam’, he’d shoot you and stuff like that.
It’d make for a nice ad for a custom business card service, if nothing else. That said, it’s difficult to see how such a villain could fit into Arrow, which tends to focus more on mad scientists, gang leaders, and ninjas as its villains. Really, the one problem Starling City doesn’t have is serial killers. If anything, we should see Onomatopoeia on Gotham. If nothing else, he’ll get his ticket punched in a truly spectacular manner.
