Henry Cavill Says ‘Batman V Superman’ Won’t Address The Issues People Had With ‘Man Of Steel’

Man of Steel certainly has more than its share of detractors. I’m not actually not one of them – I thought the movie was big dumb fun, that unapologetically played by comic book rules. Yeah, Superman and Zod leveled Metropolis, but cities are leveled in comic books all the damn time. The Daily Planet doesn’t even report on Superman being punched through skyscrapers any more. It happens that often. That said, Man of Steel wasn’t without a myriad of flaws, and it would be nice if Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had both great action and a coherent plot and likable characters.

Well, if you were hoping Batman v Superman would respond to criticism of Man of Steel in any meaningful way, Henry Cavill has some bad news for you:

“The reception of my first Superman movie, from what I’ve read, was fairly mixed. Everyone I’ve spoken to enjoyed the movie, but they’re not going to badmouth you to your face. There’s no intentional move, I don’t think, in Batman v. Superman to address any issues that people had with Man of Steel. It’s just a continuation of that storyline and they continue to develop that world and introduce new characters.”

Well hey, at least he’s honest. It seems like Cavill realizes Batman v Superman is going to be divisive, but he’s still excited to play Superman again.

“I think maybe people may look down on some popular-culture stuff, but they’re actually very complicated and interesting characters. Superman especially, he’s just wonderfully rich and one of those things, for me, that’s just enjoyable to play. He’s going to have some very interesting character development in this one.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives to piss people off (and probably make me happy) March 25.
